The Town Clerk’s duties and responsibilities are as detailed in Article 3, Section 30 of the New York State Consolidated Town Laws.
The responsibility for collecting real property taxes is performed by the tax collector. The collector is given the tax roll from which the property owners are billed for town, county and special district taxes. The taxes collected are turned over to the proper agencies.
School taxes are levied separately and collected by the school district tax collector, not the town tax collector.
Keeps a permanent record of all births and deaths occurring in the Town. Issues birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage licenses. Process applications to obtain certified copies of birth, death certificates, and marriage licenses.
