Water Main Break

Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for 1 minute, and cool before using.
Or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water
should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth or preparing food until further notice.
This Boil Water notice applies to: The Residents of Seneca Falls, Fayette District #3 & District #7, Varick
Water District #4 and Romulus Route 89 Water District.

What happened?
At approximately 6pm on Tuesday August 31, 2021 there was a compromising water main break in the Town of
Seneca Falls. Due to this main break increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes can enter
the water line.

Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and
may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune
systems. But these symptoms are NOT just caused by microbes in drinking water, and may have other causes. If
you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you should seek medical advice.

What is being done?
Once the water main is repaired and inspected, water service will be turned back on to the Route 89 water main
line. The Boil Water Advisory will be lifted after 2 consecutive days of sampling reveal negative bacteria

It is likely that you will need to boil water for the next 3-4 days until the problem is fixed. You will be informed
when tests determine that you no longer need to boil your water.
